I opened the travel section of the Sun Herlad this sunday and got a huge surprise. they had printed my picture! I was very excited!!! You can send in pics from your travels and if they like it they print it. Plus you win a prize from Kathmandu which is also nice. This is my second picture they have printed. I sent one in ages ago of a visit to Drumheller, town in Canada where they have this massive dinosaur statue which towers over the town. smh-travel-picture-prize.jpg

So now I’m thinking maybe I can go somewhere with this. I have so many pictures that look great must be something ypu could do with them. maybe make postcards???

I went out to dinner on Friday night with del, to catch up on her trip to Cambodia. We came back to my house to watch the last season finale of the OC, just cuz we figured it would be so corny it would be funny. Walked inside, turned some lights on and bang, all the downstairs lights went out. I grabbed a torch to go get my keys and open the back door to get at the fuse box. That’s when del spotted a cockroach, and totally freaked out!!! It was very hilarious, while she followed the roach with torch beam I tried to spray it. The spray was quite low so instead the roach just kept running around everywhere and making us scream. I eventually got my thong out and tried to smack it, while del ran halfway up the stairs!!! So once that was dead we had to head outside, through my garden to the fuse box. That involved skirting an absolutely massive spiderweb outside the back door, some more weird roach things round the near the garage, and phantom webs which kept brushing against our faces. We had to do this trip quite a few times to check if the lights were back on or not. So after all that fun, it ended up being some wire which had been tripped and I had no idea what to do so we turned on the tv, lit some candles watched the end of the OC, while sipping tea and munching on chocolate.

headed out with my buddy trish (hi! if you are reading this) for an outing (love that word) to south head. Its part of the entrance to Sydney harbour and has some amazing views. One of those top 10 places for tourists to visit I think, as when we got on the ferry could hear a few accents. Its a pity though that I have lived in Sydney my whole life but really don’t remember ever going there, and its such a lovely place. So much great stuff around which, when you live in a city you take for granted. anyway it was a stinking hot day. we walked to camp cove beach to start and headed along a path to lady Bay beach (nude beach) and onto the headland and Hornby Lighthouse, which is the second oldest in NSW. There’s an annoying navy training base in the way (HMAS Watson – oh its stand for Her Majesty’s Australian Ship) so you have to backtrack to continue along the headland starting at the Gap and continuing along the cliff’s south for 20 mins. Really easy walk but so hot we kept stopping to cool down in the breeze. Also sussing out spots for new years, as some great views of harbour bridge. I am so jealous of people who live there.

Should have gone one day later though, as was a massive fuss in Sydney because the Queen Mary 2 was docked in the harbour for the day. Was crazy!!! It came in about 6am, stacks of boats out to greet it, helicopters everywhere. All around the city traffic was busy all day as people wanted to get a glimpse of it. Public transport overcrowded, weren’t enough services. Plus Queen Elizabeth 2 came in so they had a little hooting ceremony and some fireworks later. All for a ship, granted it’s pretty big, but it is just a ship!

haven’t posted for a few days as not much going on really. i watched the movie version of the Broadway musical ‘Rent‘. Really enjoyed it, and the music is great. So have been listening to the soundtrack a bit. It started on stage 10 years ago and they got most of that cast to be in the movie. The story follows a group of bohemians in New York, as they live through one year, 1989 I think, and the stories, love, issues they face like aids, drugs and sexuality.

then been working, but doing such long shifts making me really exhausted. Plus been a bit unwell so Friday just slept the whole day as was totally out of it. doing 10.5 hours tonight which is going to be tough. and then 10 hrs later i am back at work for another 8 hrs. i am only going to be able to stand it by thinking about the money, time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday. so a wealthy weekend for me.

its Chinese new year tomorrow so Chinatown in Sydney has celebrations on. went in with my sister to look at the markets. saw some dragon dancing. and lots of food stores. all buying sauces and noodles in bulk for cheap prices. tried a Japanese pizza which was interesting. sort of very thin pancake folded over with noodles, cabbage, eggs and meat inside. plus these delish mini bread balls filled with hot custard. they were so yummy!!!

i have been home almost 3 months now I and I think yesterday was the most rain I can remember in that time. It just started absolutely pouring down, really heavy and blowing in so had to race around the house shutting all the windows. It wasn’t only the evening but all night and still going this morning. It may seem weird to be writing about rain but it is so long in between rain falls that always get amazed when we finally have a big storm. I went upstairs and so much low cloud everywhere that couldn’t see past the house across the street.

in other news, signed up to lay soccer this year. haven’t for 2 years and I have missed it. so hoping that the team will be good. Also going to go back to the dental surgery to do Saturday morning and if possible a Thursday night. have to see if that will work out yet.
